This Friday we will learn to deepen your prayers and develop your faith as you learn how to practice this form of prayer!
Join us for our next day retreat! We will practice both visual and written art forms as a way to connect to God in prayer. Visio Divina is translated as “divine seeing.” It is related to the prayer form Lectio Divina (divine reading), but instead of Scripture alone, the form we will practice utilizes both scripture and visual elements to help set your mind on prayer. It allows God to speak to your heart through image.
Art is considered to be the language of the soul. Artmaking itself is a journey, a communication, a modality, a healing and a prayer. Through the practice of artmaking, we are able to open ourselves to God the creator and that “ember” He implanted within each of us; his divine spark of creativity. Through this dialogue of art, we can expect God to reveal truth, invitations, mysteries and surprises.
The focus of this retreat will be “Sacrificial Prayer” using Psalms 5.3 as our foundation: “At each and every sunrise you will hear my voice as I prepare my sacrifice of prayer to you. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on the altar and wait for your fire to fall upon my heart.” We will engage in the mediums of collage and poetry as we explore this theme.
Come see us this Friday, October 18th from 10am to 4pm at West Houston Church of Christ. Register today! See you at the Well!
